Peacock Feather Dangle Earrings

I have always loved the colors of peacock feathers.   When I was experimenting with earring designs and came up with a long dangly earring that resembled a peacock feather, I was thrilled!  I have since made several variations on the design, with more in the plans!  Here are a few that I have made:

Here is the very first pair that I made.  Simple and sweet

I then experimented with making each “bead” a bigger size to make it more noticeable and came up with this pair:

Then I went back to using the small “beads”, but put many more of them on each earring.  This nice long pair really makes a statement! Find it here in my etsy shop.

This is my latest, and is the first time that I used three colors.  I love the effect!  It can be found in both my etsy shop and handmade.my shop.

I’ve even made them in rainbow colors!  They don’t look much like peacock feathers, but it’s the same design and they are so fun!

I love doing custom orders and can make these long dangly peacock earrings to YOUR specifications.  Long, short, big beads, small beads, any colors you choose, you name it!

Tiny Roses

One of my designs that elicits the most “wows” at craft markets are my tiny rose chandelier earrings.  Made of several roses that are only 1/4″ in diameter, they definitely are attention getting!  When I first made tiny rose chandelier earrings I attached each tiny rose to a circle base.  It was cute, but when you see the earring from the back it was definitely not as nice looking as from the front!  In a moment of inspiration a few weeks ago I thought “why not put two roses back to back!”

So I did.  And what a great idea it turned out to be!  Now all my tiny rose earrings will be made like this.  They look just as great from the back as they do from the front!

This pink and red pair was a custom order

In this closeup you can see how two roses are attached back to back:

Here is a pair I have up for sale in my etsy shop and in my handmade.my shop:

And a closeup:

Here is yet another pair that I will also list up for sale, but am waiting to get outside to get some better photos of the gorgeous metallic purple:

Jumbo Crescent Paper Quilled Earrings

*EDIT*  Make sure to visit my NEW blog and subscribe to keep updated with my paper quilling jewelry,  tips, tricks, inspiration, and free tutorials!

I just love coming up with new designs, especially for earrings!  I take notice of clothing, jewelry, designs and patterns I see all around me as inspiration.  For several weeks now as I’ve been watching American Idol I’ve noticed several people wearing very large earrings.  Jennifer Lopez, Naima, and Pia as well as others.  One popular design seems to be large crescent shaped earrings.  I thought making a paper quilled version would be cool, so I finally set about it!

For my first pair I chose to use a rust colored paper.  I love that this color makes the final earrings look like a mahogany wood finish.

I used the top and bottom of a jar that I have to create two big circles for each earring, then glued them together.  I filled the space between the two circles with different sizes of circles.  The tricky part is making sure both earrings are the same! I do this by working on both pairs at the same time, doing the work simultaneously.  This creates a one of a kind pair of earrings!  I can make a similar pair, but I can never replicate the same pair as I do not use a pattern.

Once the earrings are dry I coat them twice in a sealant to make them sturdy and water resistant.

Finally I add on the findings.  These are the first pair of earrings I’m offering with niobium earwires.  I spent weeks researching earring findings.  I wanted to offer some of my earrings with a high end earwire.  I thought about rhodium plating, sterling silver, gold filled, and finally came across niobium.  It is just as hypoallergenic as pure gold, and it is non tarnish!!  What could be better??  Plus it comes in many cool colors!  So far I only have the silver color available, though I plan on ordering more soon.

Each earring measures 3″ (7.5cm) wide and 3 1/4″ (8.5cm) long

These earrings are available for sale in my etsy shop and in my handmade.my shop

Helping Japan

While reading each day about the ongoing troubles in Japan – earthquake, tsunami, threat of nuclear disaster – I wanted to help.  I’m sure everyone feels that little “ping” saying they really should do something to help. Unfortunately I am not in a financial situation where I can just take money out of our budget to donate right now.  Which made me sad.  But then I realized there IS something that I have – my etsy shop!  My jewelry!  So I decided to donate 70% of each etsy sale to Direct Relief International, they have a special fund set up especially for the Japanese relief efforts.  THAT I can do!!

I started this fundraising just a few days ago and I have already donated more than $75 thanks to several customers!!

I am not the only etsy seller making donations to the Japanese relief efforts.  Some sellers are donating a certain percentage, some are donating the entire price of certain special items they have created.  Just a quick search in etsy will show you many wonderful items being sold to help Japan!

So take a browse in my etsy shop – remember, 70% of the list price goes to help Japan!!
